About the Norelco brand
Norelco is the brand name used by Philips for their line of personal care products (like electric shavers) in the North American region.
In the 1940s, when Philips began targeting the American market, they were legally prevented from using the Philips brand because the name was too familiar to the already established Philco trademark. In 1981 Philco was bought by Philips, and they could start using their own brand on most products, but they kept the Norelco brand on personal care products and the Magnavox brand on budget consumer electronics.
In 2005 they started branding their line of shavers “Philips Norelco”, to possibly be able to phase out the Norelco brand in the future.
